Sunrise from Helvellyn
Helvellyn, voted Britain’s most popular mountain, is one of the Lake District’s most famous peaks. The views from the summit are breath taking and to see these unfold as the sun rises is an experience not to be missed. The deep blues of the star filled night sky giving way to pale pastel colours before the bright reds and oranges herald the golden glow of the sun climbing above the horizon.
Standing ‘on top of the world’ we can enjoy the magnificence of nature. To the north, bathed in golden light, stands majestic Blencathra and Skiddaw. Below our feet, runs razor-sharp Striding Edge pointing east to Ullswater and the Pennines beyond. All around unfurl distant views of the beautiful Lake District – a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Guided Sunrise from Helvellyn Walk
If you would like to see the sunrise from Helvellyn then why not book a ‘Sunrise from the Summit of Helvellyn’ walk. Your walk will be led by Lathan Ball, a qualified and knowledgeable Mountain Leader. Starting from the shores of Lake Thirlmere we will ascend a good mountain path, zig-zagging upwards under the dark night sky.
Away from urban lights our eyes will be drawn upwards to the awe and wonder of the bright star filled heavens. From Lower Man we will follow the skyline ridge with its far reaching views before arriving on the summit to savour the warmth of the sun upon our faces.
After welcoming the dawn we will enjoy a hot drink and breakfast snack before returning to the valley floor.
During the ascent we will hear about local tales and legends, discuss mountain features and look at the wildlife. Providing you with a rich and memorable experience.
Distance: 5 miles
Ascent: 2500ft/760m
Time: Approx. 6 hours
The ascent will take 2 – 2.5 hours and we will begin walking about 3 hours before sunrise. The exact start time will depend upon the time of year. We will walk at a comfortable pace with plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent lake and mountain scenery. If you are walking fit and can carry a small daysack with your food, water and waterproofs you should be able to complete this walk.

One-to-one and Small Group Guided Sunrise from Helvellyn Walk
Guided Mountain walking is available on a one-to-one or small group basis. This allows me to tailor your guided walk to your specific requirements, fitness and interest. Walking in a small group limits environmental impact, allows us to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the mountains and provides you with an opportunity to ask about the landscape, perhaps develop your navigation and mountain skills or just enjoy the company of friends. Whatever walk you decide I will do my best to ensure you have a safe, high quality and enjoyable day.
Guided Walking Costs: one-to-one guided walk £160. Private Groups £220 (2-6 people).

The Sunrise from the summit of Helvellyn Walk is also available as an open group walk through AirBnB Experiences. The group size is limited to 6 people and provides an ideal opportunity to join like minded people, make new friends and have a great time.

One or More Days Guided Mountain Walking
Walks can be booked to provide two or more days guided walking. This provides greater opportunities for you to explore the mountains, discover new places, develop your skills and fitness and enjoy your time in the Lake District.
If you book two or more days together you will receive a discount of 10% on the combined cost.
Accommodation
My guided walks do not include accommodation allowing you to choose exactly what you prefer. A large range of accommodation is available in the Lake District and we are happy to help organise this. You could also consider booking a wild camping and walking course on a one-to-one basis. This is especially enjoyable and beneficial in the summer when the sun sets late and rises early.
