Introduction to Mountain Photography

This Introduction to Mountain Photography course is designed for those who are new to landscape photography or for “snappers” who want to leave the camera’s automatic modes behind, take greater control of their picture taking and unleash their creativity.

This practical course, which takes place in the mountain environment, will consider:

  • The camera’s controls (aperture, speed, metering, ISO, white balance)
  • Composition – foreground, mid and far distance, framing the shot, rule of thirds, focal point, perspective, vanishing point, and use of colour
  • Equipment – filters (polarising, ND graduated), tripods and lenses
  • Getting the image you want, improving creativity and the importance of planning

The Introduction to Mountain Photography course runs throughout the year. The course will last approximately 7-8 hours and provide the understanding needed to boost your photography, develop your picture making skills and create eye-catching images. All you need to bring is your personal kit, camera (filters and tripod if you have them), food and a flask of hot drink.

Accommodation

My photography courses are booked without accommodation allowing you to choose exactly what you prefer. A large range of accommodation is available in the Lake District and we are happy to help you organise this. You could also consider booking a wild camping and photography course on a one-to-one basis. This is especially enjoyable and beneficial in the summer when the sun sets late and rises early. Please visit our Wild Camping and Photography page for more details.

Introduction to Mountain Photography beyond the Lake District

If you wish to explore an area outside of the Lake District please contact me by e-mail or phone for an informal chat about your requirements. I am a regular visitor to Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons and just love visiting and photographing Britain’s wild places.
