Creative Mountain Photography

When considering mountain photography and picture making it is very easy to get bogged down by the technical process, the desire to record sharp images and conform to the so called ‘rules of composition.’ During our Escape and Create Mountain Photography course the rules are forgotten and you are encouraged to think creatively, see the mountain landscape in new ways and produce your own unique images.

Creative days will be spent walking in the mountains, discovering new landscapes and exploring the changing light, colour, shapes, patterns and movement to create dynamic and engaging pictures. To capture a specific effect we will examine exposure, review shutter speeds and aperture size and consider how selective focusing will allow us to isolate elements of the landscape. Perhaps we will expand our view with panoramas, pursue abstract attractions and introduce dynamic effects. We will take the opportunity to throw the rules away, have fun and develop our own unique view point.

Escape and Create Mountain Photography Days run throughout the year. Guided walks last approximately 7-8 hours. All you need to bring is your personal kit, camera (filters and tripod if you have them), food and a flask of hot drink.

One-to-one Creative Mountain Photography and Small Group Courses

The Escape and Create Mountain Photography course is available on a one-to-one or small group basis. This allows me to tailor your course to your specific requirements, skill level and interest. It also enables the arrangement of early and late starts providing access to the magic hours when the light is at its best and the most stunning images can be captured. Perhaps you would like to incorporate a late finish and include some night sky or dark sky photography? If you are fortunate you might even capture the Milky Way or a shooting star. Whatever you decide I will do my best to ensure a high quality and enjoyable day.

Course Costs: one-to-one tuition £180.  Small Groups: 2-4 people £220.

Please e-mail your preferred dates to book your day(s) and arrange payment.

Young people under the age of 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Accommodation

My photography courses are booked without accommodation allowing you to choose exactly what you prefer. A large range of accommodation is available in the Lake District and we are happy to help you organise this. You could also consider booking a wild camping and photography course on a one-to-one basis. This is especially enjoyable and beneficial in the summer when the sun sets late and rises early. Please visit our Wild Camping and Photography page for more details.

Creative Mountain Photography Beyond the Lake District

If you wish to explore an area outside of the Lake District please contact me by e-mail or phone for an informal chat about your requirements. I am a regular visitor to Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons and just love visiting and photographing Britain’s wild places.
