Guided Mountain Photography Walk – Open Group Walks

The dramatic scenery of the Langdale Pikes provides abundant opportunities to escape the crowds, explore far-reaching views, discover cascading waterfalls, explore small tarns  and capture unique photographs.

‘Within its boundaries is one particular concentration of mountains, crowded into a small space, that, for popular appeal and scenic attractiveness ranks second to none: The Langdale Pikes.’

Alfred Wainwright

My open group mountain photography walks run throughout the year and provide an exciting opportunity to explore and photograph the magnificent Langdale Pikes. Your qualified Mountain Leader will ensure you stay on the right paths, highlight points of interest, answer your questions and ensure you have an enjoyable and memorable day.

Although there will be no formal teaching, in order to allow for a range of experiences, there will be plenty of opportunity for one-to-one time and ad-hoc questions.  Hopefully we can answer all your queries and we are more than happy to discuss:

  • The camera’s controls (aperture, speed, metering, ISO, white balance)
  • Composition – foreground, mid and far distance, framing the shot, rule of thirds, focal point, perspective, vanishing point, and use of colour
  • Equipment – filters (polarising, ND graduated), tripods and lenses
  • Getting the image you want, improving creativity and the importance of planning

Your guided mountain photography walk will last approximately 7-8 hours and all you need to bring is your personal kit, camera (filters and tripod if you have them), food and a flask of hot drink.

The routes I follow are entirely non-technical but the terrain includes mountain paths, rough stony ground and short steep climbs.

This walk is also suitable for non-photographers who want to travel at a leisurely pace and spend time relaxing and enjoying the landscape.

Accommodation

My mountain photography walks are booked without accommodation allowing you to choose exactly what you prefer. A large range of accommodation is available in the Lake District and we are happy to help you organise this. You could also consider booking a wild camping and photography course on a one-to-one basis. This is especially enjoyable and beneficial in the summer when the sun sets late and rises early. Please visit our Wild Camping and Photography page for more details.

Guided Mountain Photography Walks beyond the Lake District

If you wish to explore an area outside of the Lake District please contact me by e-mail or phone for an informal chat about your requirements. I am a regular visitor to Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons and just love visiting and photographing Britain’s wild places.
